We respect the outcome of the referendum and thank our community for its engagement and participation in the democratic process. The Board of Thomasboro Grade School remains committed to maintaining fiscal responsibility and ensuring that we can continue to provide quality services to those we serve. We will begin the process of evaluating necessary budget adjustments, including identifying potential cost-saving measures and cuts that may need to be implemented. Additionally, we will work to place the referendum on the ballot again in April, as well as explore the option of issuing bonds to support our financial needs. The Board will remain focused on fulfilling our mission responsibly and in the best interest of our community.

We received notification that Thomasboro Grade School has received a Summative Designation of COMMENDABLE for the 2024 school year. As a reminder, • Exemplary acknowledges the top-performing 10% of schools • Comprehensive identifies (A) schools in the lowest-performing 5% and (B) schools with overall performance above the lowest-performing 5% that have one or more individual student groups who remain Targeted, even after completing a full Targeted school Improvement cycle. • Targeted recognizes schools with overall performance above the lowest-performing 5% but with individual student groups performing similarly to the lowest 5%. • Intensive identifies schools that remain in the lowest performing 5%, even after completing a full Comprehensive Support School Improvement Cycle. • All other schools receive a Commendable designation. Last school year we received a Targeted designation when 1 of our 3 student groups performed similar to the lowest 5%. We began last school year working through the School Improvement Process. Our School Improvement Team looked at data from our assessments, attendance, and climate surveys. Administration met with a diverse group of stakeholders to present the School Improvement Plan and gather suggestions. From that data collection we implemented attendance initiatives, teachers have been provided continuing professional development, and we continue to evaluate our data. I am thrilled to share that our students, teachers, and families hard work is paying off. As I stated above we have 3 groups of students that are evaluated by the state testing in the areas of English Language Arts, Math, Science, Attendance, and 5 Essential Survey. In order to be a group there must be 20 or more students. Those groups are: • ALL STUDENTS • LOW INCOME STUDENTS • WHITE STUDENTS In the area of Absences: ALL STUDENTS: went from 42% chronic absences (missed 18 or more days) to 24% in 2024 LOW INCOME STUDENTS: went from 50% chronic absences to 31% in 2024 WHITE STUDENTS: went from 34% chronic absences to 25% in 2024 In ELA Growth: ALL STUDENTS: went from 47% showing growth in 2023 to 68% in 2024 LOW INCOME STUDENTS: went from 50% showing growth in 2023 to 66% in 2024 WHITE STUDENTS: went form 46% showing growth in 2023 to 66% in 2024 In Math Growth: ALL STUDENTS: went from 44% showing growth in 2023 to 58% in 2024 LOW INCOME STUDENTS: went from 40% showing growth to 57% in 2024 WHITE STUDENTS: went from 45% showing growth to 56% in 2024 Climate Survey: ALL STUDENTS: In 2023 82% of our students took the 5 Essential Survey – 100% in 2024 LOW INCOME STUDENTS: In 2023 81% took the 5 Essential Survey -100% in 2024 WHITE STUDENTS: In 2023 79% took the 5 Essential Survey-100% in 2024 Summative Score ALL STUDENTS: 39.20 in 2023, 68.20 in 2024 LOW INCOME: 35.03 in 2023, 60.97 in 2024 WHITE STUDENTS: 40.32 in 2023, 64.50 in 2024 Parents thank you for encouraging your children and ensuring that they attend school every day. A huge thank you to our incredible team, supportive community, and parents for making this happen. Together, were building a brighter future! We will continue to strive for Exemplary every day! Here’s to more growth and success this year! Let’s keep the momentum going!

At approximately 3:25 today our bus was in an accident on route 45. The bus was evacuated and all students were cleared and released to their parents or put on another bus. We will have social workers at the school tomorrow to offer support services to our students. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. White at 217-304-3233. We are thankful for the Champaign County Police Department for their quick response and grateful there were no serious injuries.
